JAMB 2016 Registration Closing Date - Extended till 31st January

The closing date for the registration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as announced by JAMB, has been extended till 31st January. 

We therefore wish to advise all Myschoolers who are yet to purchase their 2016 UTME forms to do so on or before January 31st, 2016. 

This also extends to candidates who are still waiting for supplementary or additional list of their choice schools for the 2015/2016 admission year to be released.

It is always a bad idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There is no 100% guarantee that your name will appear on the list even if the school eventually releases it.

To be on a safe side, get the JAMB form before it expires. That way, even if you miss the 2015/2016 admission, you will still stand a chance in the 2016/2017 session. 

Also remember the examination is expected to commence February 29th 2016 (all things being equal). You can make the most of the remaining time by using our JAMB CBT tools and materials as well as keep your self updated with any recent information as it concerns 2016 UTME via this link: JAMB 2016 Information Centre - All tools you need! 

We also wish to advise those who have been admitted by their respective schools but were not able to find their admission details on JAMB portal, to check again by clicking here as more names have been uploaded and there after proceed to print their admission letters by clicking here.

Poly Ibadan Notice To Students On Payment of Computer And Health Insurance Fees

The Polytechnic, Ibadan has added another new compulsory fees to be paid both by freshers and stalites, which is called the computer and health insurance fees.

The computer fee is 2000 Naira and the health insurance fee is 1000 Naira making a total of 3000 Naira.

Payment of these fees makes it possible for you to pron out your course form.

Enter your Form/Matric Number as username and password and make your payment and proceed to make payment. 

The Number Of Applicants For Polytechnics, COE Has Improved - JAMB

The Head, Media and Information of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement yesterday said that the board has expanded the carrying capacities of some of the higher institutions for 2016/2017 admission.

He equally stated that the enrollment for Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and Monotechnics and Innovative Enterprise Institutions has improved.

He reacted to the recent comments by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Rahmon Bello who said that JAMB is responsible for admission challenges in higher institutions and advocated that there should be separate entrance examination for Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

According to Mr Fabian, what the VC failed to put into consideration was the fact that it was due to the admission challenges necessitated by the separate entrance examinations for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education that informed the decision for a Unified Examination.

He stressed that when the board was conducting UME for universities and MPCE for other institutions of higher learning, one of the concerns of stakeholders was the negligible number of candidates sitting for the MPCE. Where you have over a million candidates applying for UME, and less than 200,000 applying for MPCE.

He noted that going back to separate examinations would only worsen the situation and further place heavy financial burdens on the candidates, as they would want to sit for all the examinations to achieve the same result that the unified examination was currently giving them.

He attributed the preference for Universities over polytechnics and COE to the issue of Bsc/HND Dichotomy and called on the government to resolve the issue. 

DELSU Law Faculty Loses NUC Accreditation

The Law students of Delta State University, Abraka are currently in a state of panic following the withdrawal of NUC‘s accreditation of the faculty. 

It will also be recalled that the institution's faculty of engineering lost is accreditation as well four years ago.

It was learnt that some of the requirements which the institution failed to meet which led to the law faculty losing its accreditation include the provision of computers for the faculty’s e-library, upgrading of books, provision of air conditioners for the library, the completion and furnishing of the lecture and the moot court.

While commenting on this, the President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria, LAWSAN, Mr. Desmond Orisewezie appealed to the state government and the school authorities to work towards restoring the accreditation of the two faculties. 

According to him, if this trend continues, the institution may be shut down. 

Surmounting Peer Pressure And Staying Focused

It has been a burden on me to write on this topic for a long time and thank God the time is here.

The Influence of friends has really done great harm to some peoples destiny and brought it to a state of no repair while it has been the other way round in some cases. 

The influence of the friend you move with on you can either be positive or negative and be informed that some influence can be reversed while some will become permanent.

I will be using an illustration coined out of my personal experience to buttress this.

I happened to have a friend some years back whom we both criticised cultism together. We even make jest of them and made up our mind never to join.

Not long this friend of mine was admitted to an higher institution of learning and on his arrival after one of two semesters, he started canvassing me to join up with a cult group to which he belongs.

I was surprised and confused on how possible this could be. Sincerely, considering the way he analysed it for me, if I wasn't decisive(able to take my ground), I would have joined up. That is what peer pressure can do, especially when they keep bringing it to you regularly.

There are situations you can't shy away from, you can't because you are been pressurised to do something bad by friends decide to leave home. There are ways to handle it. 

So many people has been kept in tight corners with confusion due to pressure from friends. So many peope has done what they never intend doing because they were unable to take their stand.

JAMB 2016: UNILORIN To Admit Up To 9000 Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has increased the admission quota of University of Ilorin from 7,800 to 9,000.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali during an interactive session with newsmen

According to him, following this development, the institution is currently putting effort towards equipping its laboratories and has also collaborated with investors to build additional 5,000-bed-space hostel in the institution to ensure the institution meets the accommodation demands of its students.

While commenting on the issue of JAMB allowing UTME results to be valid for more than a year, prof Ambali said he is not in support of the idea. According to him, candidates re-writing examinations annually would give them the opportunity to do better than they had done in previous ones.
